Alexander Stadium Birmingham
Problems: Difficult access to the structural steelwork of the stadium and the need to safely lift and install heavy speakers.
Solution: Use of rope access techniques, MEWPs, the Harken Riggers Winch, and chain blocks, combined with a detailed lifting plan and risk management, to complete the task safely and efficiently.
Jaguar Land Rover Solihull
Problems: Freudenberg needed to replace high-level filters in Jaguar Land Rover paint shop but couldn't use scaffolding or MEWP due to conveyor systems. Work had to be completed without disrupting ongoing operations.
Solution: Rope Task used experienced technicians to safely access high-level steel beams via rope access. The non-intrusive approach completed the work efficiently without operational disruption.
Leeds City College
Problems: Dortech needed to remove and replace broken glazed units from Leeds City College's curtain wall system, but MEWP or scaffold access was either too intrusive or unsafe due to ground conditions. The location of the broken glass units made traditional access methods difficult and impractical.
Solution: Rope Task provided rope access methods with suitable anchor points, working alongside a 35-ton crane and ground team to safely remove and install glass units. They used comprehensive risk assessments, vacuum lifters, and coordinated lifting operations to complete the glazing replacement efficiently and safely.
Empress State – MET Police HQ – London
Problems: The Met Police West London HQ needed to carry out essential maintenance work on their roof structure but lacked proper fall protection systems to ensure worker safety during the operations.
Solution: Rope Task installed 6 individual KeeLine® fall protection systems, calculating layout, supplying, installing, and certificating the systems within two days. This enabled the essential maintenance work to be completed safely on the roof structure.
134 Edmund Street
Problems: 134 Edmund Street is a 10 storey office building with an 8 storey internal glass atrium in the centre of the structure. Scaffolding had been removed from within the internal atrium and this resulted in safe access problems, as a number of tasks needed completing.
Solution: Rope Task technicians carried out the following tasks using rope access techniques, without the use of conventional scaffold access:
Banner Installation
Problems: Hang two banners, covering four storeys of a thirteen storey office building, within Coventry City centre, to promote the World Children’s Games and the British Olympic bid
Solution: Rope Task technicians rigged wire frame attached to nonpenetrating anchor brackets. Banners were then attached to frame and unveiled in the presence of MP’s and large crowd in celebration of World Children’s Games, all using rope access techniques to gain access to elevations of the building.
The Trafford Building
Problems: High level atrium located within new John Lewis store required a number of tasks to be completed as scaffold had been removed
Solution: Rope Task technicians carried out the following tasks within the atrium, using existing steelwork and over 500 preinstalled, dedicated rope access anchor points to access work areas.
Rope Access Neon Lighting
Problems: After installing feature neon lighting to eight water towers at the Brunswick Centre, future access for maintenance of the neon lighting was needed.
Solution: Our technicians installed over 350 safety anchor points conforming to EN 795. These anchor points will allow future access by specialist teams of rope access technicians to carry out maintenance and replacement of the neon tubes.
Aughrim – Rope Access Netting
Problems: Due to new legislation, Aughrim’s new landfill site required the erection of 1000’s of square metres of containment netting to enclose the whole landfill site to prevent birds entering and litter escaping. This inevitably required work at height as 40 – 50 metre towers and masts were required to hold 100’s of metres of rigging cables, which held up the containment nets. Access was also required along the rigging cables to attach and anchor all containment nets.
Solution: Rope Task supplied a team of highly experienced rope access rigging technicians who assisted in the erection of towers and masts. Once this had been completed all cable rigging and tensioning was carried out by Rope Task personnel working at heights of up to 51m. Once all cables had been anchored and secured, containment nets were lifted and using specialist rope access techniques, operatives gained access along the 32mm steel cables and secured the containment nets.
Beetham Tower, Manchester
Problems: During the installation of the glass and steel ‘blade’ on the roof, a strange noise problem emerged. People reported that the building “whistles” (more like an intermittent hum) in windy weather.
Solution: Rope Task along with the main contractor made several site visits to prepare a safe system of work for working at height and the control of any dropped objects. Rope Task riggers, using rope access techniques, installed containment nets overlaid with heavy duty debris nets that would totally enclose the working area on the glass blade structure. Technicians then used rope access techniques to install and test over 1800 aluminum profiles.
Rope Access Stadium Work
Problems: Stadium owners needed to access high level and difficult areas for installation and maintenance of lighting, sound systems, advertising media, signage, and LED screens, but traditional access methods were costly and disruptive to stadium operations.
Solution: Rope Task used rope access and aid climbing techniques that deploy quickly with minimal stadium disruption, utilizing existing steel structure within stands to provide cost-saving solutions for high-level installations and maintenance work.
Rope Access – London Zoo
Problems: Holes in the Snowdon enclosure at London Zoo required repairs, but accessing the structure for maintenance was challenging.
Solution: Rope Task installed eyebolt anchor points, enabling technicians to use rope access techniques for efficient repairs and future maintenance of the entire structure.
Rope Access – Window Cleaning
Problems: The unique design of Manchester’s Great Northern Tower made accessing the building for window cleaning extremely difficult.
Solution: Rope Task used experienced rope access technicians to perform regular abseil window cleaning, ensuring efficient and safe access to the building.
Rope Access Painting – EON Docks
Problems: Accessing the dock side elevations of two ship un-loaders (SULs) at EON bulk coal terminal for slurry blasting and anti-corrosion painting was too expensive and time-consuming using scaffolding or MEWP.
Solution: Rope Task used rope access techniques to efficiently complete slurry blasting and paint application on vertical elevations and boom ties at 80 meters, enabling the SULs to resume operation within 48 hours.
Stadium Painting – Rope Access
Problems: The underside of the Queen Mother Grandstand at Aintree racecourse was inaccessible using conventional methods for painting the support steels.
Solution: Rope Task used rope access techniques to efficiently complete the painting works within one week, overcoming access challenges.
Rope Access Painting
Problems: After the exterior building render had been applied, noticeable colour differences were visible on elevations of this 25-storey building.
Solution: Rope Task technicians gained access to all elevations of the building using rope access techniques and painted all rendered areas. All rendered areas now match the original specification.
