Glazing Replacement at Leeds City College

Rope Task were approached by Dortech – Architectural Glazing Specialist to provide rope access solutions for glazing repairs at Leeds City College. The project involved removing and replacing numerous broken single and double-glazed units from a curtain wall system, where traditional access methods such as MEWPs or scaffolding were either too intrusive or unsuitable due to ground conditions.

Following a site assessment, we confirmed that rope access was the safest and most efficient solution. We inspected the roof for suitable anchor points and developed a comprehensive risk assessment, safe system of work, and rescue plan, which were approved by both Dortech and the main contractor, Kier.

Safe & Efficient Glazing Installation

Working in coordination with a 35-ton mobile crane, a banksman, and ground workers, our rope access team safely removed the broken glass. Using a vacuum lifter and lifting equipment, the damaged units were carefully transported to the ground, where it was placed on a stillage for disposal. The new replacement glass was then hoisted into position and secured by our operatives, ensuring a seamless installation.

With all pressure plates and caps reinstalled, the vacuum lifter was removed, and the project was successfully completed—a safe and efficient glazing replacement, minimizing disruption to the site.

At Rope Task, we specialize in complex access solutions, delivering high-quality results for glazing, façade repairs, and more.
