Rope Task at The Wave, Coventry – Overcoming Height Challenges in a Unique Environment
The Wave in Coventry is one of the UK’s most exciting indoor waterparks, featuring high-speed slides, a wave pool, and a winding lazy river. However, its intricate layout, with slides crisscrossing throughout the space, presents significant challenges for maintenance and high-level access.
Expanding Scope – From Cladding Install to Comprehensive Works
What started as a small assist to an exterior cladding install, quickly evolved into a larger project as additional works were required. Working closely with one of our trusted clients, Rope Task were assigned to carry out multiple high-access tasks, ensuring the project site remained safe.
Our IRATA-qualified team of five operatives utilized aid climbing and releasable rope transfers to access all required areas, overcoming the constraints posed by the tight environment.
Key Tasks Completed:
- Steelwork Maintenance: Our primary task involved cleaning, mechanically preparing, and painting the steel structures situated high in the roof void.
- Ventilation Enhancements: We aided in the lifting and installing of fabric ducting above the steelwork to improve ventilation and moderate air flow within the facility.
- Bespoke Welding: Rope Task used coded welders to fabricate and install new escape stairs for the water slides. These were welded directly to hanging structural steel columns in the roof space. Since no structural steel extended to the ground and access was limited, welding via rope access was the only option. Following installation, we carried out Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), to ensure the integrity and safety of the welds.
With traditional access methods not feasible due to the park’s design, our expertise in rope access allowed us to complete the project efficiently without disrupting the ongoing worksite. Our team maintained strict safety measures throughout, ensuring both their own well-being and the protection of the surrounding structures.

Despite the complexities of the site, Rope Task successfully completed the project on time and to the highest standards. The work carried out at The Wave reinforced our ability to adapt to demanding environments and deliver exceptional results for our clients.This project showcased our problem-solving skills, precision, and commitment to safety—qualities that define every job we undertake.
